2010 Novice and Intermediate Champions Crowned at the BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships!

(March 6, 2010) – It was day two at the BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships in Brampton, Ontario at the Powerade Centre. Novice and Intermediate level teams skated their second free programs after performing their first free skates on Thursday.

Winning the Novice title was Les Pirouettes from the Quebec Section. They skated two strong programs and were able to capture the gold with a total of 85.14 points. Ice Image from the Western Ontario Section followed in second and won silver with an overall point total of 85.04, having posted the highest score in the second free program. In third was Nova from the Quebec Section with a total score of 83.75.

Next up were the Intermediate teams. Synchronicity from Western Ontario won both free programs to ultimately capture the gold and the title of Canadian Intermediate Synchronized Skating Champions. They scored a total of 101.04 points. Close behind was Cassiopée from the Quebec Section. They won the silver with 100.18 points. Central Ontario’s Shiver took home the bronze with a competition score of 95.66.

The Open category was next up with their first free program. Leading after their first program was NEXXICE from Western Ontario with 38.96 points. Just a few points behind was Nova from Quebec with 36.24 and holding down third spot was Gold Ice from Central Ontario with 35.46 points.

The Junior teams hit the ice after a short flood break to skate their short program. Nexxice junior from Western Ontario took the lead with 65.28 points. Sitting in second spot is Les Suprêmes from Quebec with 59.74 points after the short. Holding tight in third is Gold Ice from Central Ontario with 58.74 points.

The Senior teams closed the night with their short programs. Three-time Canadian Champions and reigning World Champions, NEXXICE from Western Ontario led the way with 80.16 points. In second spot is black ice from Central Ontario with 76.46 points and in third was Les Suprêmes from Quebec with 67.90 points.

The stakes are high for Senior teams as the top two placements will go on to the 2010 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in Colorado Springs, USA in April.

Saturday will see the conclusion of the BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships with the crowning of Canadian Champions in the Open, Junior and Senior categories.
