NEXXICE dominates the podium at the 2010 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships!

(March 7, 2010) – Saturday was full day of top-notch synchronized skating as the Open, Junior and Senior teams performed their final programs. The day belonged to the teams from NEXXICE, as their Open, Junior and Senior teams won gold in all three categories.

The Open teams were up first. NEXXICE from Western Ontario kept their momentum from their first free to also win the second free skate, winning the title of Canadian Open Synchronized Skating Champions. They scored 80.28 in the second free for a grand total of 119.24. Nova from Quebec followed behind to claim the silver with 78.88 points in the second free for a total of 115.12 points. Claiming the bronze was Central Ontario’s Gold Ice with 77.82 points in the second free for a competition total of 113.28 points.

The Junior teams hit the ice next and another NEXXICE team won a gold this time, Nexxice Junior from Western Ontario. They scored an impressive 107.46 in the free program for a combined score of 172.74 points. Les Suprêmes from Quebec won the silver with 94.84 points in the free for an overall score of 154.82. In third was Gold Ice from Central Ontario with 58.74 points in the free for a total score of 150.02.

In fitting fashion the Senior teams closed the show with their free programs. It was no surprise that 2009 World Champions NEXXICE from Western Ontario held onto their lead to claim their fourth Canadian title in a row. They accumulated 142.68 points in the free for a total competition score of 222.84. Not giving up without a fight was black ice from Central Ontario who finished a close second with 141.84 points in the free for a total of 218.30 points. In third place was Les Suprêmes from Quebec with 128.24 points in the free for a grand total of 196.14.

NEXXICE and black ice will both go on to represent Canada at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in Colorado Springs, USA on April 9-10, 2010.
