Skate Canada names World Figure Skating Team to compete in London

TORONTO, ON – At the conclusion of the highly successful 2013 Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships Skate Canada named the first members of the team that will compete at the upcoming 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships®. They will be held at the Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario from March 11-17, 2013.

The team was introduced at the “Top of the World” in the Horizons Restaurant atop the CN Tower.

“We are proud to send an exceptionally strong team to the world championships which are being held here in Canada. Not only do we have two reigning world champions on the team, but every member will be competitive and challenging for either podium or top 10 results,” said Mike Slipchuk, Director of High Performance for Skate Canada. “We are fortunate to be able to hold this event in Canada, and know that our skaters will appreciate competing in front of a home crowd.”

Although Canada qualified spots for three men, three dance teams, two pair teams and one woman, at the 2013 event, additional athletes will be named to the team following the upcoming ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Osaka, Japan later in February.

Kaetlyn Osmond, 17, Marystown, Nfld. & Sherwood Park, Alberta
