JEONJU, South Korea - Canadian Kevin Reynolds captured bronze at the ISU Four Continents figure skating championships Saturday, while American Adam Rippon surged from seventh to win the gold.

Reynolds, of Coquitlam, B.C., was the leader after the short program. He opened with two quad jumps but the 19-year-old couldn't maintain the pace and fell twice before finishing with 212.99 points overall.

"I had a great start and I was able to hang onto a medal," said Reynolds, who was third at the recent Canadian championships. "But halfway through the program, my legs seemed to seize and when I fell on a triple Axel it was hard for me to get back into the program.

"Early on I was attacking, and then I got more tense and nervous as I neared the home stretch."

Rippon won the gold with 225.78 points, while Japan's Tatsuki Machida took the silver with 217.48.

Shawn Sawyer of Edmunston, N.B., was seventh, while Joey Russell of Labrador City, N.L. finished 11th.

The Canadian team, which didn't send any Olympic skaters to the event, finished with four medals - one gold and three bronze. Kaitlyn Weaver of Toronto and Andrew Poje of Waterloo, Ont., captured ice dance gold, while Allie Hann-McCurdy of Nanaimo, B.C., and Michael Coreno of Delhi, Ont., were third. Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ont., and Craig Buntin of Kelowna, B.C., won bronze in pairs.

The Four Continents competition was held in Jeonju, which is 240 kilometres south of Seoul.
